Joolz Dawe
After 24 years in local industry, 19 of them making loudspeaker cabinets for many of the most distinguished and innovative companies in the south-east of England. He has commissioned machinery and workshops, invented protocols for programming 5-axis machines, design-for-manufacture, and done lots of product development work and prototyping, thousands of hours machining and paint spraying, not to mention the sheer tonnage of sweeping up!... it was time to see what else a practical, creative wood-pig could achieve.
So, with some savings, some tools and a fantastically supportive wife, Joolz gave 4 months notice and stepped into the terrifying world of self employment.
Before very long, the first local jobs presented themselves and we were away at the races
So what's he like?
Joolz is a thinker. An artist. Practical, yes, but a little slow to respond to a question because he wants to explore the options and make a personal response to the heart of the matter rather than appeal to the wallet and go for the cheapest/fastest mass produced solution that most would.
Athlete? Coming from Sussex, many boots and bicycles have been worn out on the South Downs. Many Trainers ruined running on the sea front. Recently, climbing has become a real passion - an exquisite mix of physical and mental problem solving! Alongside all of the human powered exploits, motorcycle racing has been a lifelong pursuit. Taken together, the fundamental instinct for balance between high output performance and endurance carries over into his general approach to life.
Joolz is an incurable pain in the arse who will not do the obvious thing, instead agonising over the details that create a real connection between object and client.
